A Cultural Event

This is Mnt. Timpanogos. This mountain range is named after The Indian Princess Timpanogos. If you look you can see her beautiful profile and long cascading hair , she is at rest. This mountain range is the back droop for the gorgeous Heber Valley.

Pow Wow

On Saturday we went to a Native American Pow Wow at Soldier Hallow. Soldier Hallow is where they held 26 medal events during the 2002 Winter Olympics. It is just a little ways from Heber.

The Pow Wow was an amazing event. I have always been very intrigued with Native American music and dancing. The people looked so neat in their traditional regalia. The bright feathers and ornate designs of bead work that adorned their clothing was a beautiful site. They sang and danced from 11:30 in the morning until midnight. We got their around one and stayed until four. After which we went to my Grandmother's home where she had a delicious meal prepared. I wish we could have returned in the evening; there was going to be dancing with fire.

Perhaps next year we will go latter in the day. When we went it felt like we were on the face of the sun and the only place to get out of the sun was to go in the tee pees that had been erected for the event. You always have to go once to figure out what you will do next time to make things more comfortable.

All and all it was a neat experience. I shall never forget watching Charlie dance with such rhythm to the beating of the drums. It is that little bit of Choctaw blood from his Great Grandma Boulter's side of the family.

Zack, Stone, Nathan, Charlie, Grammy and I went to Lagoon today. We had a very enjoyable time. The last time that I went to Lagoon was when I was in middle school. The park has changed quite a bit.
Charlie was not happy with the fact that he could not go on the big rides with the boys. We had a time trying to explain that he was too little and that they would not allow him on. He was not into the little kid rides. Such a thrill seeker, just like his Grandpa Boulter. Bruce in a few years you will have a little dare devil to take to Six Flags!

We were there for six hours and still did not come close to trying all the rides. Nothing like Disneyland, but pretty entertaining none the less. I need to take Robert soon, he would have a great time!

Two weeks before Jessie passed away Robert's Mom came to visit her Mother in Kimberly Idaho. Knowing that if my Mom lived in a different state and came to town to visit I would do anything to go see her. I told Robert to go and visit his Grandmother and see his Mom. He needed a little get away, everything was so tense as we anticipated the passing of Jessica.
He took Charlie and drove to Idaho and had a wonderful visit. I wish I could have gone with them, I love visiting his Grandmother. They live in a beautiful place that reminds me of Baker. I have been wanting to post these pictures they are so fun, especially of Robert, Charlie and Grandpa Heider in the Model A; a car older then the Model T.

We went to Farm Country at Thanksgiving point and had the best time. Charlie got to spend the day with his favorite cousin Ben. They rode ponies and went on a buggy ride trough the farm. The buggy was pulled by a big Clydesdale horse named Size.

Charlie loved the peacocks, he was intrigued with their feathers. We spent a long time watching the peacocks strut around. Charlie and Ben feed some baby calves corn and the calves were licking the kids faces. It was so cute! It was a very eventful day. We will be sure to go back and visit. I have to somehow instill country life in Charlie. The best way would be to go visit Grandpa Perkins on the ranch. Road Trip!!!

The Burr and the Bricker family hosted a neighborhood party. We had a wonderful time and got to know our neighbors better. They plan to have one more before the summer is over.
Have you ever seen the movie "Sand Lot"? In the movie there is a scene where they have a neighborhood 4th of July party and have the road blocked off. There are kids playing and sparklers...grown -ups barbecuing. I have all ways wanted to recreate such an event, so I am glad someone in the neighborhood initiated it. I think this will be a wonderful tradition to keep going. Perhaps Robert and I will host a party...I love planning and getting ready for a party!

I wanted to share the beautiful pictures that were taken at the funeral. Steven's girlfriend, Sarah is a photographer and we asked if she would take pictures. She did a lovely job and we are very pleased with the results. We wanted candid shoots with a few posses.

I want to thank all those that attended the funeral and sent flowers; we greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness and sympathy. It was wonderful to see all those that attended and I know Jessica was so pleased.

A Beautiful Day in the Mountains

For Father's Day I put together a picnic and we went to Hobble Creek and barbecued hamburgers. It was very enjoyable. Robert and Steven talked politics and world affairs. Mom, myself and Charlie went on a beautiful mountain hike. It is so lush and green in the mountains because of the temperate spring and rain.

We stayed quite late. It was fun; we built a large camp fire and had the best time talking and enjoying the beauties of nature. The only thing missing was marsh mellows. Not that we needed anything more after the very filling meal plus a Boston cream chocolate cake for dessert.
